ST. LOUIS DAY CELEBRATION  2010

SATURDAY, AUGUST 21

4 a.m. to 7 a.m.     ---   Seasoning, stuffing, storing 4,000 lbs of Alsation style sausage in cooler at Koenig Park.

7 a.m. to ???         ---   Final preparations at Park for picnic day.

5 p.m.                    ---   Mass at park pavilion for volunteer workers.

7 p.m.                    ---   Mass in 140 yr-old St. Louis Catholic Church.

 

SUNDAY, AUGUST 22 -- PICNIC DAY!!  Big Festival celebrates 128th birthday!

 

EARLY in a.m.        ---   Barbecue operation begins.  Over 50 volunteers season and BBQ around 2 1/2 tons of beef.

 

Early to l0:45 a.m.  ---   BBQing, saucing, slicing beef; cooking, cutting sausage; preparing cabbage slaw, potato salad; in general, massive kitchen operation using hundreds of volunteers readying the big meal.

 

9:00 a.m.            ---   PICNIC DAY MASS--in St. Louis Church, celebrated by Retired Bishop John Yanta.  The famed Liederkranz Men'sChoir from San Antonio will provide the singing.

11 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. ---   Feeding over 2,000 diners per hour, using 2 efficient meal serving areas to avoid long lines

12:00 Noon till 7 p.m. -- LIVE ENTERTAINMENT ON OUTDOOR STAGE AREAS

The Flemish FolkDancers,

The Fire on the Mountain Cloggers,

The ever-popular San Antonio Community Band is making its 27th straight St.Louis Day appearance.  The group, composed of some of the finest musicians in the area, will entertain with a wide variety of selections.  Music and singing, including local mariachis will echo from every corner of the park throughout the day as fun and merrymaking is the order of the day.

--ALSO ON THE GROUNDS—

 

l p.m. to ???   ---   THE BIG AFTERNOON SILENT AUCTION, when  numerous antiques, as well as specialty items, are displayed in the confines of air-conditioned Koenig Park Hall.

 All day long   ---   All sorts of games and rides in Kiddie Korner; all types of food and drink  stands—sausage and barbecue buns, nachos, homemade cake, beer, soft drinks, iced tea, candy, ice cream, sno-cones, and wine coolers; and amusements for all ages--doll booth, bingo, arts & crafts, plants, trash 'n treasures, horseshoe and washer-pitch tourneys and all kinds of souvenirs. 12th annual St. Louis Downs Horseracing.

About 7:00 p.m. --- Annual picnic drawings pull down curtain at end of perfect day of merrymaking.  Beautiful quilts, and numerous merchandise prizes and gift certificates will be awarded.

 

 WORTH FILMING IN TOWN--Majestic St. Louis Church; original St. Louis Church (166 years old); first parish school and Moye buildings (all over l00 years old on Moye grounds); church cemeteries in western sector of the old town, with century-old markers; and many old pioneer homes and structures, namely, Landmark Inn State Park and the homestead of city founder, Henri de Castro; and numerous antique shops.
